About 150,000 unemployed youths in Ondo State are to benefit from a skills development empowerment over the next 18 months. This came to the fore at the opening of a 2-day training programme for 200 unemployed youths in Akure.

Ayodeji Moradeyo reports that thousands of the youths are thrown into the labour market yearly after graduating from higher institutions of learning.

Tolulope Adeyemi is one of them. But his story will change, after this two-month training, organised by the newly established Ondo State Office of Innovation and Partnerships, in collaboration with German Development Corporation.

Like him others are hopeful of positive impact of the skills development empowerment programme.

Senior Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Innovation and Partnerships, Joel Ogunsola said the plan to empower 150,000 youths with life development skills, will be implemented in 18-month period.

The National Coordinator for the Nigerian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration, Elizabeth Olayinka-Adekunle said the partnership is to empower Nigerians with skills that can make them self-reliant.

About 100 SMEs have earlier been engaged by the office of Innovation and Partnership, as part of plans to partner them in the ongoing activation process.
