The health ministry in the Yemen’s capital Sanaa has declared a state of emergency following the latest cholera outbreak which has flared up amid rising temperatures in recent weeks.
Statistics by the Yemen Ministry of Public Health and Population shows that as of Sunday, 327 cholera-related deaths and more than 160,000 cases of infection or suspected infection have been confirmed.
Within the last three weeks, local health authorities set up 29 emergency treatment centers for the epidemic in Sanaa with the help of international organizations including the World Health Organization.
More centers are expected to be built in other provinces of the country.
Since April 2017, there have been two severe cholera epidemics in Yemen, killing 3,070 people and leading to more than 1.5 million cases of infection and suspected infection.
