Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commissioned the construction of a 632-bed hostel project at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari campus, Abuja.

According to Wike, while speaking at the event on Monday, October 20, President Bola Tinubu has also approved the construction of a new auditorium at the law school campus.

The FCT minister stated that the additional auditorium was not initially part of the plan but was approved by the president after a discussion about the school’s infrastructural needs.

“When I discussed it with my son, who was recently called to the bar, he told me that even with the new hostels, the existing auditorium may not take all the students. I raised this with Mr President last night, and he directed that another auditorium should be built for the Nigerian Law School,” he said.
Wike commended President Tinubu’s swift response, describing it as ‘leadership at work’.

“In just two years, Mr President has intervened twice in the affairs of the Nigerian Law School. Each visit has brought tangible development, from staff quarters to student hostels and now, the forthcoming auditorium,” he said.

The minister stated that the new hostel project, which will provide equal accommodation for 316 male and 316 female students, fulfils President Bola Tinubu’s December 2024 pledge to resolve the institution’s long-standing accommodation challenges.

“When there is good leadership, achieving results becomes easy. We will ensure this project is completed within 12 months without any variation,” he assured.

Wike also commended the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, for his partnership in advancing justice sector reforms, particularly the ongoing digitisation of FCT high courts.

He praised Isa Chiroma, Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, for his visionary leadership and dedication to institutional development.

“I have never seen a luckier director-general. The infrastructural transformation he has brought to the Nigerian Law School is remarkable,” Wike remarked.

In his response, Chiroma expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the AGF, and the FCT minister for their continued support and investment in legal education.

“Today’s flag-off fulfils the promise made to provide 300-bed hostels each for male and female students. This will go a long way in helping the Law School fulfil its mandate,” he said.
