Social critic and social media influencer Daniel Regha has publicly refuted the circulating claims of a Christian genocide in Nigeria, raising serious questions over assertions that Muslims are solely responsible for the killings of Christians amid the pervasive insecurity plaguing the country.

He stated this amid growing concern on social media over a claim by a popular United States political talk show host, Mr Bill Maher, that the Nigerian Christian community are being targeted and killed.

Reno Omokri, a former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, had previously condemned the claims. He provided insight into the killings across the country, detailing how another group had suffered more significant losses in the insurgent attacks.

Writing on his X platform, Regha cited the continuous killings carried out by the IPOB/ESN groups, which are currently terrorising the southeastern states.

Regha condemned the harmful stereotyping of all Northerners and Muslims as terrorists. He supported this argument by citing the instances of Muslims being killed and mosques being destroyed within the Northern Region itself.

Regha wrote, “Islam is the religion, while Muslims are those who practice Islam, and in Nigeria, Muslims have been attacked, injured, and KILLED countless times by bandits.

“Just recently, bandits have attacked a mosque in Zamfara, killing many people. In Katsina, over 27 muslims who gathered to pray in Unguwan Mantau suffered the same fate.

“If Muslims/Islam were the problem, why would they attack their own place of worship that is highly sacred? Now, let’s leave that aside, the insecurity issue happening in the South-east, South-south, South-west, do we still pin the blame on Islamization?

“When calamity strikes, are the culprits identified as Northeners or Muslims precisely? In truth, many of you have stereotyped Northerners are terrorists to the point where any Northerner seen outside their region is suspicious, and then we complain about bigotry.”

Regha concluded by urging Nigerians to focus on holding authorities accountable, rather than pushing divisive agendas against one another.

Muslims are suffering the same insecurity challenges as Christians, and the blame is on the government that couldn’t care less. But of course, push an agenda instead of holding your dear leaders accountable,” he concluded.

TVC previously reported that Reno Omokri, a social critic and a former Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan, has condemned the claim by a popular United States political talk show host, Mr Bill Maher, that the Nigerian Christian community are being targeted and killed.

Maher stated in a viral video on social media, a clip from his show Real Time with Bill Maher, that over 500,000 killed in a Christian genocide in Nigeria last year.

Omokri wrote on X, refuting the claim, stating that there was no record of a 500,000 Christian massacre by muslims in Nigeria last year or any other year.
