Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has addressed the ongoing security challenges facing the country and outlined the steps the Ministry is taking to address them.
He noted that the Ministry is examining the global security landscape to inform its strategies.
Lake Chad remains a critical area for national security, as terrorist threats from the Sahel region continue to endanger Nigeria’s stability.
While all previously occupied territories have been reclaimed, terrorist attacks persist in the North East.
He explained that the root causes of insecurity are tied to complex socio-political factors, and President Tinubu’s approach is focused on achieving lasting peace and stability.
The Ministry, along with the military, is intensifying its efforts to protect the country by enhancing intelligence sharing and deploying both kinetic (military force) and non-kinetic (non-military) strategies to combat insurgency.
A key objective is to restore governance structures across affected communities.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by strengthening and expanding existing security policies.
He emphasized the importance of protecting lives and property, ensuring that all citizens feel secure.
He also shared details on the number of hostages rescued and highlighted recent operational successes, including areas where terrorist threats have been neutralized.
He concluded by urging all Nigerians to support the nation’s security forces, stating that ensuring safety is a shared responsibility.
