Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Professor Chukwuemeka Ozumba said the country’s economy would fare better if appreciable funds are allocated to fund research development in the nation’s tertiary institutions.
He called on the Federal Government to allocate special funds that is in line with UNESCO budgetary provision, expected of every
member state for her educational system.
The UNN outgoing Vice Chancellor made the request while analysing his achievements at the UNN Business School personality investiture, at the Enugu Campus.
Correspondent Bamidele Ajayi reports that University of Nigeria Nsukka stands as one of the oldest institutions in the country that has produced scholars whose giant achievements serve as leading light of successes to many across the globe.
The institution’s Business school too is regarded as one of the achievements under Professor Chukwuma Ozumba’s reign as the Vice chancellor
of the institution, presently being referred to as the hub for business and managerial networks, leading in technology and researches in the country.
These were some of the expectations the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the university tasked the government, identified that the country’s tertiary
institutions should serve as the diagnosis centres, where national issues are treated with research discoveries.
The university dons advocate for a review of the nation’s tertiary institution funding to be at par with the UNESCO demands that suggests 26
percent budgetary allocation, be set aside to fund education and research development.
University of Nigeria Business School was a brain child of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Chukwuma Ozumba which was conceived under his
reign as the VC.
He outlined it essence as a platform set up to compliment the institution’s drive to serve as the hallmark for research in Business Technology and
development, who was also honored by the school with the Foundation Fellowship Award.
