The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the death of two persons in a tragic multiple crash that occurred at Soka Junction along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway.

According to the Command, the incident, which happened at about 10:10 p.m. on April 4, 2026, in Ibadan, the state capital, also left several others with varying degrees of injuries.

Preliminary findings revealed that the accident was caused by a white HOWO truck with registration number Gombe GEM696XE, driven by one Abdullahi Bashiru, who reportedly lost control due to excessive speed and reckless driving.

The truck rammed into other vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW, as well as pedestrians at the busy junction.

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

He assured that a thorough investigation has commenced to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure that justice is served.

The Command also urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, particularly avoiding excessive speed, to prevent avoidable accidents. It reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of lives and property while calling on residents to continue to support security agencies with timely and useful information.

The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Oyo State, Oluwasola Busayo, when contacted, confirmed the incident, adding that the obstruction had been cleared and traffic flow has since returned to normal in the area.
