Troops, CJTF Arrest Suspected ISWAP Operative In Borno

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP)/Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) during an intelligence-led operation in Damasak, Borno State.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspect was apprehended at about 9:50 a.m. on July 24 at the Damasak Onion Market in Mobbar Local Government Area by troops of the 5 Brigade acting on credible intelligence.

A search conducted after the arrest led to the recovery of a vehicle and ₦35,300 believed to be linked to the suspect.

The suspect and the recovered exhibits have since been taken into custody as investigators work to determine his alleged role and possible connections to ISWAP/JAS terrorist cells operating within the Lake Chad region.

Military sources said the arrest forms part of ongoing intelligence-driven operations aimed at disrupting terrorist logistics, identifying collaborators and dismantling insurgent support networks across Nigeria’s North-East.
