FRSC Recovers Double-Barrel Gun From Crash Scene In Anambra, Hands Weapon To Police

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a double-barrel gun from the scene of a road traffic crash along the Awka-Enugu Expressway in Anambra State, with the weapon subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation.

The firearm was discovered on Friday during a routine inventory of victims’ belongings by an FRSC rescue patrol team after completing rescue operations at the crash scene.

According to a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, the gun was found concealed among luggage inside one of the crashed vehicles.

The statement said the rescue team immediately secured the weapon in line with the Corps’ operational procedures to prevent unauthorised access or misuse, adding that it was handed over to the police after no claimant or valid documentation for the firearm was presented.

Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the professionalism and vigilance of the rescue team, saying the recovery underscored the FRSC’s broader contribution to national security.

He said, “The incident further proves the strategic role of FRSC in supporting internal security through its nationwide patrol and rescue operations.”

The Corps Marshal noted that although the FRSC’s primary responsibility is to prevent road crashes, rescue victims and ensure safer highways, its personnel have also played vital roles in the recovery of stolen vehicles, dangerous weapons and other security-related items during rescue operations.

Mohammed assured Nigerians that the Corps would continue to strengthen collaboration with other security and law enforcement agencies to improve public safety and support national security objectives.

He also urged motorists and other road users to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities along the nation’s highways.

The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency and inter-agency cooperation, stressing that all rescue operations are conducted with the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
