The Lagos Island Local government area of Lagos State has marked one year in office with a N100 Million naira SME’s grant to traders and artisans within the Local Government.
Chairman of the Local Government, Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan, said the decision to empower Artisans and Youth owned businesses in the LG is one designed to ensure people are able to scale up.
He added that it is also a way of supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
According to him “We just have to support the government and support our father, the President of this country, to reach the grassroots.
I personally visited all the artisans and beneficiaries to ensure the grant got to the right people. I wanted to make sure the support reached those who truly needed it.”

Representative of the Oba of Lagos, Adebola Dosunmu while speaking to beneficiaries urged them to make good use of the grant.
“₦1 million, when invested properly, can help a business grow.
This support is for 100 people, and we believe those 100 beneficiaries can, in turn, create opportunities for even more people.
My advice is simple “use the money wisely. It is not for aso ebi or unnecessary spending. Invest it in your business and let it help you grow.
We wish all the beneficiaries success in their businesses.”
Some of the beneficiaries commended the LG Chairman describing the grant as a game changer for them.

Akeem Olawale described the grant as something that will take his business to the next level “This money will make a huge difference to my business. It means a lot because it has been difficult managing with limited funds. I truly appreciate this support.”
For her part Rabiat Abubakar another beneficiary said “The ₦1 million will really help my business. I sell sachet and bottled water, and with this support, I’ll be able to expand into wholesale.
