President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for what he described as transformative leadership, saying the state’s ongoing reforms are critical to Nigeria’s democratic and economic growth.

Speaking while receiving Mbah and a delegation from Enugu, Tinubu described the visit as significant, noting that, “this is a very intimidating delegation, and I will mark this as a very remarkable moment of this administration.”

The President praised the governor’s vision and commitment, stating that the progress recorded in Enugu reflects the impact of purposeful governance.

According to him, “the work you are doing is extremely important for our democracy to grow and for people to flourish, for the state to develop.” He added that the future of the country depends on leaders with “commitment, great vision and seriousness.”

Tinubu further acknowledged visible improvements across key sectors in the state, including education, transportation, security, healthcare and infrastructure.

He said, “the results you have outlined… are not abstract, they are the evidence that reform is working, that difficult decisions are yielding real outcomes, and that Nigeria is moving forward.”

The President assured the delegation of continued collaboration between the federal and state governments, particularly in advancing infrastructure and economic development projects. He specifically referenced the proposed rail line linking Port Harcourt to Enugu, as well as ongoing power sector reforms.

On financing challenges, Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s past struggles stemmed from relying on short-term funding for long-term projects. However, he expressed optimism that with committed leaders, the country is on the right path.

In his words, “Nigeria is on the right trajectory of becoming a very successful, leading African nation, stressing that progress requires contributions from all tiers of government.

Tinubu also urged greater attention to local government development, while applauding Mbah’s political alignment with the ruling party.

He remarked, “you were in the other party… but you are in the progressives family today, I am proud of that.”

Addressing broader national challenges, the President maintained that Nigeria’s aspirations remain achievable despite obstacles, emphasising resilience and focus.

“The hope you enunciated… is not a pipe dream, it is something for real, it is achievable, it will be achieved as we are working together,” he said.

Tinubu further urged the governor to remain steadfast amid criticism, adding, “stay focused… leave them in their tunnel, stay focused and believe in yourself.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to national development, the President said efforts are underway to rebuild critical sectors, including electricity, and to secure a better future for Nigerians.

He concluded with a message of confidence and partnership, telling Mbah, “we will not let you down… there will be rough waters until we land this ship together.”
