There is tension in Anambra following the alleged kidnap of five persons by suspected herders.

The incident occurred on the weekend in Ayamelum local government area.

One of the victims was President-General of Omor community, Mr Francis Onwuachu, who was reportedly kidnapped on Friday night.

Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Mohammed Haruna, confirmed the incident.

However, he said he was not aware of the number abducted adding the command had commenced investigation on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Former local government chairman and ex-President General of the community, Hon Udoji Amedu, who expressed sadness over the development, said Onwuachu’s car had been recovered.

The car, he said, was taken to Ayamelum Divisional Police Headquarters in the Anaku community.

According to him: “It was not me. I am no longer the PG. It’s the present PG but his car was recovered by the police.

“It is at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Anaku. This happened about four nights ago, Friday precisely.

“Apart from the PG, we heard that four other persons were also kidnapped by the herdsmen.”

He said the herdsmen had established contact with the community and demanded N10 million ransom.

“He said the N10 million ransom was for the PG of Omor only and not for all .

“We don’t know of the others. We only know the PG. It’s for him.”

Amedu lamented his cousin was killed last month by the herdsmen.

He said many people had been killed even as scores of women had been raped in the past by the herdsmen.
