A group of students under the banner of the Coalition of National Association of Oduduwa Students (NAOS), Coalition of Yoruba Students, and the Yoruba Movement staged a protest in Ibadan on Tuesday, alleging continuous sabotage of the Dangote Refinery by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and other petroleum unions.

The demonstration began at Iwo Road and proceeded toward the Oyo State Governor’s office, with participants voicing concerns over what they described as “unpatriotic attacks and blackmail” against the refinery.

The students highlighted the facility as “a national asset and symbol of industrial hope.”

During the protest, the coalition urged the Federal Government to take decisive measures to protect the refinery and ensure its long-term sustainability.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Don’t Kill Dangote Refinery,” “#StopSabotagingFuelInNigeria,” “#EndPENGASSAN,” “#EndDAPPMAN,” and “#DangoteRefineryIsANationalAsset,” the students expressed concern over what they described as a coordinated attempt by vested interests to frustrate the operations of the refinery.

They emphasised that the success of local refining initiatives is crucial for ending fuel importation and boosting Nigeria’s economy.
