Sokoto CP launches X-Squad to tackle insecurity

The Sokoto state commissioner of police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, has launched an anti-violence Quick Reaction Strike Force of the Command codenamed ‘X-SQUAD’ as part of his efforts to restructure crime fighting in the state.

According to him, the Squad will act as an additional force to respond to emergencies and supplement the existing tactical units.

The commissioner in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman ,DSP Sanusi Abubakar revealed that the squad will work with the native and intelligence community to implement strategy that will rid the state from all forms of criminal activities and keep away criminal elements.

He also stated that the Squad will be tasked with addressing unprofessional behavior, brutality, and other misconduct among personnel in accordance with the best practices of policing agenda.

Mr. Abubakar said the commissioner also embarked on operational tour to inspect the troubled eastern senatorial district of the state to include, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Rabah and Wurno.

Also visited for on the spot assessment include Kwanar Maharba, Kai Ka Zaka, Unguwar Lalle and Tsamaye in Sabon Birni axis being one of the notorious points for bandits ambush/ attacks in recent times

The command spokesman said the tour is to review the existing strategies and reinforce the location with a more operational facilities that can safeguard citizens plying the road.

During the visit, the commissioner engaged personnel and tasked them with improving operational activities and working together to restore peace and security in the general area.

He held a meeting with critical stakeholders at various communities and assured them of the ongoing effort to tackle insecurity bedeviling the state.

He also paid visits to Rabba local government and the Internally Displaced Persons in Gandi, presenting them with gifts and assuring them that efforts are being made to restore peace and security in all troubled areas of the state.
