Social Investment Programme : Reps to investigate disbursements of funds
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The House Committee on Labour and Productivity has been saddled with the responsibility of investigating the disbursements of funds and its implementation meant for the Social Investment Programme.

The resolution of the House followed a motion by Bode Ayorinde who queried the lack of information surrounding the implementation of the programme that is said to have gulped ?more than forty two billion naira, as at April, this year.

The Social Investment Programme, is mainly hinged on a feeding programme for schools, which targets 5.5million primary pupils in all the 36 states as well as the creation of jobs  job for graduates.

The house decision to investigate the implementation of the programme, was borne out of observations made by some lawmakers.

While they believe the special intervention programme, is laudable, they perceive that the programme has been poorly handled and have called for its probe.

Other lawmakers, feel that there is the need for the Legislature to be part of the implementation programme.

This view is countered by a PDP lawmaker, who commend the programme, but demands more transparency from the government in its implementation.

This probe is expected, to identify the loopholes in implementation and ensure a smooth sail of the programme. .
