Six protesters have been shot during a march on a military checkpoint and the palace of the district head of Gurim town in Fufore local government area, Adamawa state.
Thursday’s demonstration by local motorcycle operators is in protest of a ban on their activities in the state.
Members of the Okada riders association are unhappy with last month’s ban by the military on their activities across the state, they say their livelihood depends on it.
Having first gone to the Palace of the district head to register their displeasure, they next headed for the military checkpoint where they came face to face with armed personnel
The resultant scuffle left six of their members shot and wounded.
The state government says it has already taken measures to prevent further violence.
Authorities in the state had imposed a ban on motorbikes in May, citing it as a necessary sacrifice aimed at improving security of lives and property.
