Senator Seeks Tinubu’s Intervention Over Abandoned N57B Ibi Bridge Project

Senator David Jimkuta, representing the southern senatorial district of Taraba State, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and facilitate the return of contractors handling the N57 billion Ibi Bridge project.

The project, which includes a 2.3-kilometre bridge and an 8-kilometre access road, was awarded in 2020 by former President Muhammadu Buhari but has since been abandoned.

The federal lawmaker made the appeal during an empowerment programme in Wukari, Taraba State.

The Taraba South Senatorial District comprises five local government areas: Donga, Ibi, Takum, Ussa, and Wukari.

Historically, the zone was plagued by communal crises, including conflicts between the Tiv and Jukun communities, herders and farmers, as well as incidents of kidnapping and banditry.

However, Senator Jimkuta noted that the situation has improved significantly under the current administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Agbu Kefas.

While commending the federal and state governments for their efforts in restoring peace and security to the region, the senator also praised President Tinubu for the numerous achievements recorded since assuming office.

The stalled construction of the Ibi Bridge in Ibi Local Government Council has become a major concern for both Governor Kefas and Senator Jimkuta.

The project, aimed at enhancing educational and economic opportunities in Taraba State, was awarded to RCC Construction in 2020 but has faced financial challenges from the outset, leading to its abandonment.

At the event, stakeholders expressed optimism that Senator Jimkuta’s empowerment initiative would help alleviate the economic hardships faced by residents.

They also pledged to work together to sustain peace and unity in southern Taraba.

Senator Jimkuta disclosed that over N2 billion worth of items were distributed to support residents of southern Taraba State, emphasising his commitment to easing the economic challenges faced by his constituents.

He urged the federal government to prioritise the completion of the Ibi Bridge project, stressing its importance for the socio-economic development of the region.
