Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Domestic and Sexual Violence Court heard testimony on Tuesday detailing how a security guard, Seun Michael, and his friend, Olatilo Egbayelo, allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl in the Abule-Oja area of Yaba, Lagos.
The fourth prosecution witness, Police Inspector Titi Owoeye (AP 221362) from Sabo Police Station, testified that the victim and her mother reported the defilement on 29 April 2023.
Inspector Owoeye stated that the incident occurred after the girl left home to avoid being beaten by her mother.
Under questioning by State Prosecutor Bukola Okeowo, Owoeye recounted the defendants’ alleged confessions:
The victim claimed that Egbayelo (“Ola”) took her in and had sex with her multiple times.
When she later went looking for Egbayelo, she encountered Michael, who also allegedly raped her.
Both defendants reportedly admitted to the acts in their cautioned statements.
The police issued a medical referral to the Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) for examination before transferring the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti.
During cross-examination by defence counsel Sam Ogungbamila (SAN), Owoeye confirmed that the victim’s age was based on her mother’s statement, as no birth certificate was verified.
Egbayelo was arrested near the victim’s residence in Abule-Oja.
The defendants face charges under Section 137 of Lagos State Criminal Law (2015) for defiling a minor.
The case has been adjourned to 3 July 2025 for further proceedings.
