A train on the Blue Line Rail of the Lagos State Government

Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwoolu has inaugurated the completion of civil infrastructure of the first phase of Lagos rail mass transit Blue line from Marina to mile 2.

The event marks the conclusion of the first phase of the Blue line project.

The Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue line is the city’s first light rail system and the largest infrastructure undertaking currently in Lagos State.

State officials, the All progressives Congress chieftains are here at the National theatre station to be part of this history.

Started 13 years ago by the 13th Governor of Lagos state Babatunde Raji Fashola, this project witnessed a lot of challenges including funding, crossing of the lagoon and COVID19 pandemic.

Governor Sanwoolu came took it on and now complete the first phase.
For him, this is a strong testimony of his administration’s commitment to make journey time seamless for Lagos Residents.

Now it’s time to test run.

The train uses an automatic fare collection machines with the cowry card.

The Governor and his entourage are going on the train ride from the National theatre station to marina and back.

This is a joyous moment for Lagos.

A bird’s eye view of Lagos from the elevated rail is a beautiful sight to behold.

Funded by the Lagos State Government, the project consists of eleven stations spanning 27 kilometers and Powered by electricity from its own Independent Power plant.

The journey to and fro is less than 10 minutes.

Governor Sanwoolu shared his experience with me.

Passengers operation for the blue line will begin first quarter of next year.

The state multimodal system of transportation where rail, water ways Can complement and decongest the roads is now a reality in a mega city Lagos.

What is now known as the Lagos Metro Line was originally initiated by the Late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande the first Executive Governor of Lagos State in the early eighties but was truncated following a Military take Over and has been a dream that sadly Alhaji Jakande did not live to see come to fruition following his death in 2021.
