Sacked NEPA staff : Judge transfer stalls case
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The hearing of the suit filed by the disengaged former staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria was on Friday stalled at an Industrial Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo state capital due to the transfer of the judge
handling the case, Justice Andrew Ubaka to another division.

The former PHCN staff numbering hundred had dragged the Benin electricity Distribution Company(BEDC) to the industrial court claiming that they were wrongly disengaged from service in 2013 without following due process.

Also joined in the suit by the former PHCN staff were: Power Holding Company of Nigeria(PHCN), Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and National Electricity Liability Management Company (NELMCO).

The workers who are mainly contract staff under the defunct Power Holdings Company of Nigeria (PHCN) were disengaged from service three years ago.

They are also challenging the way they were laid off claiming that the process was unjust.

Counsel to the sacked workers, Ifedayo Olanipekun said the disengaged workers pleaded that they were wrongfully sacked without receiving any benefit.

The case has been adjourned to November 23 for further hearing as a new judge is expected to take over the case.
