Image result for phone dealers in AbujaThe Standards Organisations of Nigeria has clamped down on substandard phone dealers in the Federal Capital Territory.

The agency says this is part of efforts to ensure the right product standards are maintained in the country.

Lara Afolayan reports that it was a normal business day for these phone dealers at this plaza in Abuja but their activities came to a halt with the sudden appearance of enforcement officers from the standards organisation of Nigeria with the mandate to confiscate phones and accessories identified as substandard.

But this move was met with stiff resistance at some of the outlets.

The presence of heavy security operatives put the dealers ‘ in check and the items were seized.

Affected dealers and sympathisers describe the action as unfair. They say the standards Agency should also share in the blame of the existence of substandard goods on their shelves.

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria, says it is being falsely accused, adding that efforts will be intensified at ensuring Nigerian markets are free of substandard products.

The substandard phone raid also took place in some major markets within the FCT.
