The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors is demanding that the federal government quickly resolve issues surrounding payment of arrears of hazard allowance and consequential adjustment of of minimum wage of its affected members.

Addressing a press conference at the end of its 43rd Annual General Meeting in Ilorin, the association’s new president, Dele Olaitan, also wants the government to stem the tide of brain drain among medical doctors.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors just concluded it’s 43rd annual general meeting in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

It culminated in the election of a new set of executive members.

Dr Dele Olaitan is new president and this is his first press conference in that capacity.

He observes that the association has not proceeded on strike for over two months since it suspended its planned protest, because of the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the senate, Godswill Akpabio.

But many of the issues earlier raised are yet to be resolved.

The association commends some states for approving various welfare packages for its members and wants other states to emulate them.

Another source of worry for residents doctors is the issue of brain drain.

They believe this can be stemmed with the collaboration of the government.

The association also demands that the federal government ensures immediate replacement of exited clinical staff to reduce workload on its members.
