The House of Representatives is set to investigate the activities and financial accounts of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF from 2015 to date, following concerns over the alleged misappropriation of FIFA and CAF development funds.
Its committee on Sports is mandated to conduct the probe after the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance from Adesola Adedayo from Lagos state.
The committee is also to invite past and present NFF leadership to appear before it with records of all funds received and disbursed within the period under review.
In his motion, Mr. Adedayo submitted that the NFF allegedly received over $25 million in development grants from FIFA and CAF between 2015 and 2025, with little or no visible projects to justify the funds.
The House recalled that in 2016, FIFA queried the NFF over the misappropriation of a $1.1 million development grant, which led former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung to order an independent audit.
It was further noted that between 2018 and 2019, top NFF officials, including a former president, faced investigations by the EFCC and ICPC over alleged diversion of funds and sponsorship monies.
Lawmakers also expressed concern over reports that $1.2 million allocated for a stadium project in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, was poorly utilised, as an inspection revealed substandard facilities that fell short of international standards.
The House said the probe aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the management of football funds and to restore public and international confidence in the NFF ahead of the forthcoming African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.
