A bill for an Act to empower the National Assembly to remove state governors has failed in the House of Representatives.
Members say it lacks moral and legal sense.
National Assembly Correspondent, Joke Adisa reports that representative Edward Pwajok is the only Senior Advocate of Nigeria in the House and he is the author of the bill seeking to vest the power of removing state governors from office in the National Assembly.
In his lead debate, Pwajok seeks a repeal of the provision of section 11 (sub-section 4) of the constitution which empowers the Federal parliament to legislate for states during crisis.
But his eloquent argument does not sway his colleagues, who describe the intent of the bill as against the Nigerian constitution.
After a wave of arguments, the presiding officer gave the sponsor an opportunity for a recap.
The legislator lauded his colleagues for what he said was a robust debate and quietly withdrew the bill.
