Reps Condemns Attack on Member’s Convoy, Mourns Fallen Security Operatives

The House of Representatives has condemned the armed attack on the convoy of Rep. Jafaru Mohammed Ali, who represents Borgu/Agwara Federal Constituency in Niger State.

The ambush occurred on Tuesday along the Lumma–Babanna Road, as the lawmaker was traveling to Babanna for a constituency engagement aimed at strengthening citizen representation.

The remote location of the attack highlights the lengths to which lawmakers go to ensure government services reach all Nigerians, regardless of distance or terrain.

The incident reportedly left several security operatives dead, injured the lawmaker’s driver and aides, and caused significant damage to multiple vehicles in the convoy.

In a statement by Rep. Akin Rotimi, Spokesman of the House of Representatives, the House expressed deep sorrow for the fallen officers and extended condolences to their families, the relevant security agencies, and the people of Niger State.

The House also wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.

The legislature urged security agencies to conduct thorough investigations to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent similar attacks in the future.

“This unfortunate incident underscores the urgent need for decisive, coordinated, and sustained action against insecurity across Nigeria’s border regions,” the statement said.

The House of Representatives reaffirmed its commitment to providing all necessary legislative support to the Executive and security agencies in efforts to eradicate terrorism, banditry, and criminality that threaten national peace and stability.
