The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd), has emphasised the importance of data protection in modern law enforcement at the National Data Privacy Summit 2026.
The summit, themed “Privacy in the Era of Emerging Technologies: Trust, Ethics and Innovation,” was organised by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
Argungu commended the NDPC and its National Commissioner, Dr Vincent Olatunji, for efforts to strengthen data privacy across the country, noting that effective policing now relies heavily on data-driven approaches rather than solely on physical methods.

He pledged that the PSC would uphold the highest standards of data protection, particularly in the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables and in all commission operations, in line with NDPC regulations.
He also reaffirmed the commission’s continued partnership with the NDPC at the summit held on 4 February 2026.
The PSC said it remains committed to integrating ethical data management practices into its mandate in order to build public trust and improve policing efficiency.
The Police Service Commission is the federal executive body responsible for the appointment, promotion and disciplinary control of all police officers, except the Inspector-General of Police, in accordance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the PSC Establishment Act, 2001.
