The Presidential Envoy on Community Engagement (North Central), Abiodun Essiet has commenced a three-day stakeholder engagement and the official launch of Community-Based Peace Structures across Plateau State.
Arriving in the state for the visit, the Envoy said the initiative aims to deepen dialogue with critical stakeholders and strengthen grassroots efforts toward sustainable peace and inclusive governance in all 17 Local Government Areas.
As part of the Day 1 activities, the Envoy visited the Plateau State Department of State Services (DSS) and the Headquarters of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army. The meetings provided an opportunity to brief senior security officials on emerging community security concerns and to explore ways of enhancing collaboration between security agencies and local communities for effective conflict prevention.
The Envoy also held separate meetings with the Director-General of the Plateau Peace Building Agency, Dr. (Mrs.) Julie G. Sanda; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chief Ephraim; and several Local Government Chairmen. Discussions centered on strengthening cooperation between government institutions and community actors to address grassroots challenges, promote dialogue, and sustain peace efforts.
Reaffirming the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to peace and stability, the Envoy emphasized that the Presidency remains dedicated to fostering inclusive engagement, empowering communities, and consolidating peace across the North Central region.
The visit, which continues over the next two days, is expected to reinforce synergy among stakeholders and support the establishment of durable community peace structures throughout Plateau State.
