Crowds gathered across Poland to pay tribute to the mayor of the Polish city of Gdansk, Pawel Adamowicz, who died 
of his wounds a day after being stabbed on stage during one of Poland’s biggest annual charity events.
Commemorative vigils were held across cities in Poland including in Gdansk, as well as Poznan and the capital Warsaw.
President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, who was born in the city of Gdansk led the tributes.
The attacker was identified by Polish authorities as a 27-year-old named Stefan, who was released last month from prison where he had served 5-1/2 years for a 2014 conviction for attempted bank robber
