The Oyo State Government has awarded ₦3.5 billion in contracts to upgrade three major rural markets, aiming to enhance agricultural trade and reduce post-harvest losses.
The projects, funded under the Oyo State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (OY-RAAMP), will modernise: Aare-Alasa Market (Ona-Ara LGA) – ₦1.23bn, Oja-Agbe Market (Iseyin LGA) – ₦1.22bn, Oja-Oba Market (Ibarapa Central LGA) – ₦1.04bn
Key Upgrades Include: Improved access roads, Enhanced storage and logistics facilities, Modernised infrastructure to support farmers and traders.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, stated the initiative aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s agenda for food security and rural economic growth.
“These markets will become functional hubs, empowering farming communities and strengthening trade,” he said.
The projects were awarded to: Quicbond Nigeria Ltd (Aare-Alasa), Lee Fakino Nigeria Ltd (Oja-Agbe), AB-Bond Habitat Ltd (Oja-Oba).
OY-RAAMP Coordinator, Engr. Mrs. Adeola Ekundayo, urged contractors to collaborate with local communities to ensure sustainability.
