Over 7000 in Imo, Abia to benefit from FG's cash grant

The Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme, (GEEP) which aims to provide relief to vulnerable Nigerians, will provide cash grants to over 7000 beneficiaries in Imo and Abia states.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq said President Buhari’s administration is determined to lift many more Nigerians out of poverty and she also Flagged off the disbursement of the cash grants in Owerri the Imo State Capital.

The Federal ministry of humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development was in Owerri to launch the Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme GEEP 2.00

The minister first met with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma at the state Government House in Owerri to inform him of her visit and the federal government’s plan to improve citizens’ well-being.

The Minister was joined by Governor Uzodinma to officially flag-off the programme that will economically empower the first batch of beneficiaries

The Minister announced that the Beneficiaries will receive loans as low as N50,000 and as much as N300,000 that will be useful to farmers, petty traders, widows and youths.

More than 3500 vulnerable Imo citizens across the 27 Local Government areas of the State are expected to receive this cash grant while about 4700 Beneficiaries were also selected for the government enterprise Empowerment Programme interest free loans.

The Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma said the different schemes under the Federal Government National Social investment programmes are laudable and encouraged people in the state to always support the government efforts to alleviate poverty and improve lives.

The Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme (GEEP) is designed by the Federal Government to provide opportunities and economic empowerment for the poor and vulnerable in the society and low income earners and give them access to loans that will be used to improve their livelihood.
