Osun state government has denied plans to depose the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye ll.

Members of Ataoja in council, some women and youths on Thursday staged a peaceful demonstration over an alleged plot to overthrow the traditional ruler of Osogbo.

They carried placards with different inscriptions and marched to the state secretariat, Abeere.

They said the current attempt being made by the State Government is capable of disrupting the existing peace in Osogbo and Osun State in general. They added that such move is an attempt to usurp the power and function of the Judiciary to adjudicate on the matter currently pending in the Court of Law and it is highly prejudicial to and contemptuous of the process of the Honourable Court of Osun State.

Media aide to the state governor Ismail Omipidan denied the allegations through a press statement issued Thursday. He described the rumours as wicked and mischievous.

He also advised the Osogbo Action Committee not to incite the people against the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

The State commissioner of Police, Sunday Olaleye was also at the palace at the time described the deposition threat as an insinuation urging residents to be calm.

Mr Olaleye said no efforts will be spared towards ensuring that peace is sustained in the State.

He promised to sustain the atmosphere of peace inherited from his predecessor in the State.

The State Commissioner for Information, Funke Egbemode described the protest as unfortunate.
