Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has met with his US counterpart Kamala Harris at the White House in Washington DC.

Osinbajo disclosed this on his verified social handle on twitter.

Vice President Harris told the visiting Nigeria Vice President that the Biden-Harris Administration will provide an additional $2 million to help support a safer and more secure elections environment in Nigeria.

This is in addition to another $25 million provided earlier for The independent National Electoral commission and the Nigeria civil society to enable a credible, transparent secure and safe electoral process.

Harris emphasised the enduring strategic partnership between the United States and Nigeria and the cooperation in the counter terrorism fight.

She also recognised the strong cultural ties between the American and Nigerian people, and what she described as the remarkable vibrancy of the Nigerian diaspora.

the US VP added that Nigeria’s leadership in tackling shared global challenges is very important and promised the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to address the global food crisis.

Already, the United States has committed more than $7 billion in food security and humanitarian assistance to African countries since last October.

Professor Yemi Osinbajo led a strong delegation from Nigeria to discuss Nigeria’s energy transition plan and other mutually beneficiAl interests.

He said both countries must continue to work together at the bilateral and multilateral levels to address common global challenges, promote peace and security, tackle pandemics, climate change, and economic adversity.
