Medical doctors employed by the Ondo State government may down tools, if the circular approving their hazard allowance is not issued before Friday, the 27th of October.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Omosehin Adeyemi-Osowe, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Akure to usher in the 2023 Physician Week, urged security agencies to address kidnapping for ransom.

The current hazard allowance earned by medical doctors on the payroll of Ondo State Government is 5,000 naira.

But the State Government has shown willingness to pay a new hazard allowance for the doctors, after series of meeting with those concerned.

The State Government went further to assure the doctors that a circular to that effect, will be released on or before Tuesday, the 24th of October.

But the Nigeria Medical Association in the state urged the government not to reverse its decision, saying doctors will be forced to go on strike, if it fails to release the circular.

At a press briefing in Akure to usher in the 2023 Physician Week, the State Chairman of the association, Omosehin Adeyemi-Osowe, said the state government must not renege on its promise and address point of entry grade of doctors.

The doctors want security agencies to rise up to the challenge of tackling kidnapping of medical personnel across the country, which they described as worrisome.

The association says it will not stop asking questions about the welfare of its members and the need for government to provide conducive environment for them to work.
