An investigation has revealed that a policeman being held in connection with the killing of Omobolanle Raheem cannot account for his ammunition.

The Inspector General of police Usman Alkali Baba disclosed this when the governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited him at the force headquarters to give an update on the security situation in Lagos.

It’s been four days after the killing of Lagos based Lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem and the quest for justice is gaining momentum.

The Inspector General police recommended the suspension of the alleged shooter, assistant superintendent of police, Drambi Vandi.

Many professional organisations and interest groups are calling for the head of the Killer.

Lagos state governor’s visit to the Force Headquarters is to update the police chief on security in the state.

The killing of the pregnant lawyer has put the police on the spot.

The Inspector General of Police said; “ASP Vandi is the one that through our investigation confirmed to be the one that gives cover fire to the stop and search team and he is the
one that cannot account for the number of ammunitions that he was given.

“By every extension, we believe he is the one.

For many, the incident is a sad reminder of the gross rights violation which triggered a widespread campaign against police brutality in 2020.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, had earlier  recommended the immediate suspension of Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi, the officer attached to the Ajah Divisional Headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command, responsible for the shooting and killing of Barrister Omobolanle Raheem while waiting for the detailed report on the incident.

Meanwhile, the IGP has reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to the Rule of Law and assured the public of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that justice is not just done but seen to have been manifestly done in the matter. He therefore appeals to the public to be calm as all hands are on deck to ensure justice prevails while measures have been put in place to prevent future occurrences.
