Oil marketers attribute fuel scarcity to unsteady supply

The House of Representatives has given the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL seven days to end the perennial fuel scarcity in parts of the country.

This resolution follows a motion of urgent public importance on the need to end the sufferings of the people.

For months, residents of Abuja and other parts of the north have endured long-suffering at petrol stations in their quest for the essential commodity in the wake of the floods that ravaged some States including Kogi.

Abuja residents suffer untold hardship to get petrol. The Nigerian Midstream and downstream petroleum regulatory Authority blamed the scarcity on the floods that submerged the greater part of Lokoja the Kogi state capital.

APC lawmaker representing Niger state, Saheed Abdullahi seeks end to the recurring enigma that has crippled economic activities and affected States including the FCT .

Mr Abdullahi insists that inspite of the rains and floods having receded, the situation has remained unchanged and is adding to the economy misfortune of the people.

While petroleum marketers attribute the scarcity to unsteady supply of the product, intelligence reports affirm a deliberate Ploy by some oil marketers to derail the efforts of the government in the distribution of fuel in the country.

The report indicates that the product is being hoarded thus creating artificial scarcity and leading to a high cost of the product in some states.

In another legislative effort, the house adopted a motion calling on FEMA to urgently rehabilitate some bridges near collapse in Bassa, Jos North local governments.

The parliament also called on the Nigerian Midstream and downstream petroleum regulatory authority to seek collaboration with security agencies to ensure petrol is sold at the regulated price and in all retail outlets.
