NULGE members back direct allocation of funds to LGAs

Members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees have thrown their weight behind direct payment of allocation to council areas across Nigeria.

President of the union in Ondo state, Bola Taiwo, says the decision by the federal government will make council chairmen accountable to the people.

The federal government, through a notice released recently, took a decision where governors in Nigeria will not be able to tamper with local government funds in the country.

The notice entitled: Guidelines To Reduce Vulnerabilities Created by Cash Withdrawals from LG Funds throughout Nigeria, will take effect from 1st of June, 2019.

It also limits daily cash withdrawal from Local government accounts at 500,000 naira, while any transaction above that, must be done through cheques or e-transfer.

This decision has continued to attract shades of opinion from Nigerians.

But the directive received the blessing of Members of the Nigeria Union of Local government Employees, NULGE in Ondo State.
