NSCDC intercepts two trucks of rustled cattle, sheep in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has Intercepted two trucks carrying cows and a sheep suspected to be rustled from Tsafe Local Government area of the state

The Truck drivers and other persons in the vehicle abandoned the cattle and ran away when they sighted men of the NSCDC on their way to Gusau, the state Capital

Since 2011, the northern region has experienced a surge in cattle rustling , which has caused deaths, loss of livelihoods, destruction and displacement of persons.

 

 

In Zamfara state, cattle rustling has contributed to growing instability and increase in violent crime especially the longstanding conflicts between farmers and herders

This is why the NSCDC is helping the state government to stem the tide

Spokesman of the Corp in Zamfara says two trucks of suspected rustled cattle were intercepted along Damba community

Mr. Oche also spoke on the recent closure of some cattle markets by the state government in a bid to discourage cattle rustling.

Tsafe local government has the highest number of cattle markets shut.

Cattle rustling in Zamfara is also responsible for the Hugh cost of beef in the state.
