The Nigeria Security and civil Defence Corps in Benue State has arrested eight suspects for criminal conspiracy and vandalization of railway tracks.
The commandant of the NSCDC command in Makurdi Sadique Okeji disclosed this while parading the suspects and the items recovered.
As part of ways to improve the country’s transport system and states connectivity, the federal government takes as priority the creation and rehabilitation of railways in the country.
Although some railway tracks used in the early 80s and 90s still exist and are largely unused.
Benue State also has a good share of these rail tracks which are now relics.

Some persons, however, see it as a way to make quick money, by vandalising and stealing these tracks.
This time, The Nigeria Security and civil Defence Corps was swift to act as they arrested 6 suspects carting away about 300 pieces of railway sleepers, knots and bolts.
The suspects however claimed to be transporters who were tricked by a man who claimed to work with the Nigerian railway corporation.
Other suspects were also paraded for allegedly trying sell a stolen vehicle.
