The Federal Government has revealed it has no plans to sell the Transmission Company of Nigeria, urging the public to dismiss statements regarding a non-existing plan to privatise the government-owned power firm.

According to the Federal Ministry of Power, some of the reports falsely claimed that the said privatisation was going to take place in the coming months.

The minister said “these reports are untrue and are only mere misinformation aimed at spreading panic in the power sector, which is making progress in ensuring that Nigerians enjoy uninterrupted power supply.

He reiterated that the Nigerian government has not made a statement of intent to sell TCN.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is the focal point of the Nigerian government’s efforts to revitalize the power sector.

The Ministry of Power with key stakeholders are continuously working to evaluate, assesses and upgrade TCN to make it more efficient and transparent.

Job possibilities are being generated as part of TCN’s repositioning, such as the recently completed ramp up of employment, contrary to accusations of a plan for mass disengagement of TCN employees.

The Organization has also been building long-term capacity by training and retraining workers across all cadres for efficiency and service delivery.

“Transmission is a vital segment of the electricity value chain that constantly needs significant investment. As is the best practice across the world, the government of Nigeria maintains the transmission segment of the power value chain even when other segments have been privatised,” the power Minister said.

The government is investing and supporting efforts to make TCN a world-class transmission service provider.
