The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has urged the federal government to actively initiate measures to avert the floods that are already ravaging most cities in the country.
This comes off the back of the suspension of its planned physician’s week in Abuja.

The FCT association cancelled ceremonies to show support for victims of the massive flooding affecting most states in Nigeria.
The devastating floods experienced by most states in the country has taken many by surprise in the last few weeks.
It has been categorised as the worst flooding ever in the history of floods experienced in the country.
Over one point four million people have been displaced and thousands injured with dozens dead.
Many have rallied round to support the millions affected.
The Nigerian medical association is seeking government’s intervention as it steps up to provide succour to victims in Bayelsa state, which was the state selected for its national conference until the flooding.
Although the association is suspending all the celebrations to mark its physician’s week, it still wants all the salient challenges affecting the health sector addressed in order to forestall a total collapse of the system.
Brain drain as well as health agendas ahead of the 2023 presidential elections are at the top of the list.
