Nigerians have been charged to hold their leaders accountable for their promises after the 2023 election to end what was described as deceptive governance.
These and many more were the demands of an advocacy group, Civil Coalition for Good Governance at their annual congress held in Ibadan, the Oyo state.
It’s the Annual Congress of the Civil Coalition for Good Governance where members are hosted by the management of Justice Development and Peace commission to give stewardship account of their activities across the 33 local governments in Oyo state.
Now, the 2023 General election is just two months away and the message to candidates of political parties vying for different positions is to keep the promises made to electorate while seeking their votes.
They are also asking electorate to hold politicians accountable for their promises when finally elected into their various positions describing it as a way of ensuring responsible leadership.
Citizens were also advised to play their parts by shunning vote buying and all forms of irregularities as achieving a better society doesn’t depend only on the government.
The state facilitator of Civil Coalition For Good Governance, Amusa Ladiran in his words advised Nigerians to shun buying and selling to secure a better future for themselves.
He advised members of the civil society group to sensitize and mobilize the people to actively participate and get involved in deciding the fate of the country for another period of four years
According to the Director of Justice Development and Peace Commission, we should continue to encourage them that the wellbeing of the country is not just for the government alone but we as the people should try to demand the duty bearers do what they are there to do.
It’s not just enough to elect them. We also have to continue to monitor. We also have to continue to demand for the best.
As Nigeria prepares to head to the polls next year, the Group also promised to continue with it’s message of a new Nigeria the people through constant sensitization and advocacy for good governance
