The next Heads of Drug Law Enforcement Agencies of Africa (HONLEA) conference will take place in Nigeria in 2023.

At the conclusion of its 2022 annual conference in Nairobi, Kenya, over the weekend, the regional network unanimously chose Nigeria to host the HONLEA summit.

Other Heads of African anti-narcotics agencies agreed to have Nigeria host the 2023 conference because of the country’s solid connections with others on the continent and the NDLEA’s exemplary performance in the revived fight against substance addiction and illicit drug trafficking.

This comes as the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), met with colleagues from Kenya, Gambia, Ghana, and South Africa.

In the course of the weeklong conference, Marwa led the Nigerian delegation in presentations on every item of the agenda for discussion, where he shared the country’s experience and successes so far recorded in the drug war as a result of bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation with other stakeholders in Nigeria and partners at both regional and international levels.

He also led his team in bilateral meetings outside of the conference with counterparts from Kenya, Gambia, Ghana, and South Africa about topics of shared interest, including joint operations, training and exchange programs, and intelligence sharing.
