Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has called on citizens to strengthen national unity, support ongoing reforms, and remain optimistic about the country’s future.
In a goodwill message to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, Abiru described Nigeria as a “beacon of hope on the African continent”, noting that despite persistent economic, social, and political challenges, the country has continued to show resilience and an enduring spirit.
The lawmaker underscored Nigeria’s diversity, with over 250 ethnic groups and more than 500 languages, as a national asset that must be harnessed for progress rather than division.
“Under the green-and-white flag, we must continue to strengthen our unity, guard against actions that deepen our national fault lines, and renew our collective commitment to nation-building,” Abiru said.
He urged Nigerians to stand firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as providing “bold and focused leadership that is clearly redirecting our country toward enduring sustainable development and economic growth.”
Highlighting some of the administration’s policy interventions, Abiru pointed to the harmonization of the foreign exchange market as a key reform already yielding results. According to him, the policy has helped to curb inflation, boost investor confidence, and create a more stable economic environment for businesses to thrive.

The senator maintained that such reforms, though challenging in the short term, are laying the foundation for shared prosperity and long-term national growth.
Abiru cautioned against despair, stressing that moments of difficulty are when Nigerians’ unity, resilience, and patriotism matter most.
“This is not the time to give up on Nigeria. With determination and a shared sense of purpose, I am confident that we will emerge as a stronger and more prosperous nation — not just for ourselves, but for generations to come,” he added.
The Lagos East senator concluded his message with a note of optimism, wishing Nigerians a happy Independence Day and reaffirming his belief in the country’s future.
