As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary on 1 October, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, has dedicated a heartfelt ode celebrating the country’s resilience and enduring hope.
The poem, titled “Remember, Remember the 1st of October,” traces Nigeria’s journey from independence in 1960 to the present day. It reflects on the nation’s triumphs and trials — from the sacrifices of the founding fathers and the pains of the civil war to the struggles against corruption, disunity and missed opportunities.
Musawa highlighted Nigeria’s strength in its natural wealth, cultural vibrancy and resilient people, urging citizens to uphold unity, embrace diversity and commit to building a stronger nation.
“Nigeria is beautiful, our homeland is glorious… For 65 years she has been laborious, and with help from above, she can be meritorious. My wish for our nation is goodness, unity, and victory,” she wrote.
The Minister stressed that independence is not only a time for celebration but also for reflection and renewal of the patriotic spirit.
“Happy Independence Day to every Nigerian. Let us continue to rise together for the good of our beloved country,” she said.
