New Zealand Labour party secures advantage after final election tally

A possible Labour-Green coalition , to form a government has been strengthened, after the final election tally in New Zealand, was narrowed with the ruling National party.

The final election results confirms National won 56 seats, while Labour and Greens together, took 54 seats.

Both will have to rely on New Zealand First’s nine seats, to meet the 61 seats needed for a majority in parliament.

National lost two seats to the Labour-Green bloc, compared with preliminary results – a development which Labour leader Jacinda Ardern, said buoyed their position at the negotiating table.

Prime Minister, Bill English said the final results did not change the nature of the negotiations.
