NEDC consoles Adamawa, Taraba over flood

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated food and non-food items to the Adamawa and Taraba Governments for distribution to the victims of the recent floods and other disasters.

The Managing Director of the Commission, Muhammed Goni who presented the items to the Adamawa and Taraba state governors said the donations were to cushion the hardships on the affected people

This is in line with directives given by president Muhammadu Buhari.

Adamawa and Taraba States are the worst hit by the recent floods in the North-East with over 30 lives lost.

Farmlands were submerged with property worth billions of Naira destroyed while thousands, including children and the aged were rendered homeless.

The Governors of the two states have sought assistance from various donors including the North-East Development Commission.

Now help is coming the way of the victims from the North-East Development Commission who have handed over food and non food items to the two State governors.

Speaking at the handling over of the items in Jalingo, the managing Director of NEDC said the Federal Government was worried over the condition of the victims, and was determined to intervene in critical situations through the Commission

He commended Governor Darius Ishaku for his quick response to the disaster in the state.

On his part, Governor Ishaku commended the commission for the housing projects, provision of medical equipment to health centers in the state, construction of three mega schools as well as the quick response by the way of supporting the state with relief materials.

He assured the Commission that the government would ensure fairness in the distribution of the items to the victims, and appealed to them to reconsider the award of Jalingo-Numan and Jalingo-zing Mayo-Belwa roads respectively.

The Secretary to Adamawa State Government who received the items on behalf of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri thanked the commission for the gesture.

The items given the two states are: 20, 000 bags of rice, 10,000 Blankets, 10,000 mats, 6000 gallons of Vegetable oils, 5,000 wrappers, 6,000 shadda and 6,000, Children wears.

Highlight of the event was presentation of gift to the commission DG by Governor Darius Ishaku.

The gifts were Highland Tea, Pure Honey and Baisa farm oil, which the Governor said is the best in Nigeria being produced in the state as an appreciation to the members of the Commission.
