The House of Representatives has described Wednesday’s court ruling stopping the two chambers of the National Assembly from taking over the activities of the Edo House of Assembly as an attempt to usurp its powers.
A statement by its Spokesman, Benjamin Kalu, saiys the ruling poses a problem since it is the core constiturional duty of the National Assembly that the court has tried to stop.
Mr. Kalu says the National Assembly will appeal the judgement since no arm of the government is supposed to abdicate power to another arm.
“It is contrary to the doctrine of separation of powers that one arm of government should prevent another arm from carrying out its constitutional duty”, the House Spokesman said.
