After more than 15 years of salary stagnation, doctors and health workers in Jigawa State finally have a reason to celebrate.

Governor Umar Namadi has approved a long-awaited salary review, ending years of agitation and restoring confidence in the state’s health system.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Jigawa State chapter, has hailed the governor for what it described as a bold and visionary decision that places the welfare of health professionals at the heart of governance.

The new reform aligns Jigawa with the Federal Consolidated Medical and Health Salary Structures CONMESS and CONHESS including a review of call and hazard allowances and the entry point for doctors to CONMESS 3.

This move not only matches the national standard but, in some aspects, exceeds it a development the NMA says has rekindled hope among medical professionals in the state.

Governor Namadi’s administration has been investing heavily in healthcare infrastructure from revitalizing primary healthcare centres and recruiting new staff, to the establishment of a Medical Village in Dutse.

The complex is expected to house a Diagnostic Centre, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, and a Cryo-Oxygen Plant, in addition to expanding social health insurance coverage across the state.

With this milestone, Jigawa is positioning itself as a rising hub for healthcare excellence in Northern Nigeria a place where professionals are motivated, patients receive better care, and the health sector is becoming a model for others to follow.

The NMA has called on doctors and investors across the country to look toward Jigawa for new opportunities, describing the state as “open and ready” for growth in the health sector.
