The family and associates of Abiodun Aremu, a renowned labour activist, have announced that his burial will take place on Thursday, October 23.

Aremu tragically died on October 12 after being struck by a hit-and-run driver near his home in Ota, Ogun State.

In a statement released on Monday, the burial committee confirmed that the interment will be held at his residence near Ijako Sugar bus stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The funeral rites will span three days, beginning with a day of tribute on Wednesday, October 22. The event, themed “Celebrating the Life of a Steadfast People’s Revolutionary,” will take place from 12pm to 4pm at the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NURSES HOUSE) Lagos State Secretariat, located at 19 Amaraolu Street, near Pearlworth Hotel and the New African Shrine in Ikeja.

The tribute session will be chaired by Femi Falana, SAN, who also leads the burial committee. Speakers will include representatives from labour unions, pro-democracy groups, human rights organisations, and the Cuban embassy.

In the evening, comrades and associates will hold a candlelight procession and vigil at Aremu’s residence.

On Thursday, the activist’s body will lie in state from 7am to 10am at the residence, followed by funeral eulogies, family tributes, and the interment ceremony.
