The Independent National electoral commission (INEC) is worried about the large number of uncollected permanent voter cards in Yobe state despite sustained sensitization effort.
The development prompted the interactive session between INEC, political parties and traditional rulers, to further cascade the information to their supporters and subjects that without PVCs, they cannot Voting in the forthcoming elections.
The Yobe state Independent electoral commission has carried out various campaigns on collection of permanent voter cards.
But it seems to have fielded limited success, considering the large number of permanent voter cards still lying fallow at the commission’s collection centres across the state.
This gathering of various political parties, security agents and civil society organisations converged is to disCuss the possible challenges halting the collection of permanent voter cards.
“No PVC no Vote”, is the message for the electorate
In a separate event, officials of INEC, appeal to traditional rulers to persuade their subjects to endeavour to collect their voter cards in their respective communities.
The event was chaired on behalf of Governor Mai Mala Buni by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali.
Experts believed that the electoral umpire needs to continuously engage relevant stakeholders on the need to get their supporters to collect their PVCs.
The issue of the 2023 Elections and the challenges facing the conduct of the Elections across Nigeria have been on the front Burner lately with the attacks on the facilities and personnel of the Independent National Electoral Commission by unknown gunmen across the Country.
The attacks have been particularly ferocious in the South East and have been largely pinned down on the activities of the armed wing of the Proscribed IPOB the Eastern Security Network but have now spread to the Southwest with facilities in Ogun and Osun States coming under attack.
Suppression of Votes and alleged buying off of Permanent Voter Cards have also in the last few days.
